TelstraClear Black Caps batsman Nathan Astle underwent surgery last Wednesday (April 16).
According to New Zealand Cricket sports medicine advisor Warren Frost, Astle had two operations concurrently.
The first to repair a patella tendon tear in his left knee and the second to repair a hernia in his lower abdomen.
"Nathan had the operations at St George's Hospital in Christchurch and stayed there for one night," Frost said.
"The patella operation was performed by orthopaedic surgeon Dr Paul Armour and the hernia operation was performed by Dr Ross Roberts.
"Both operations appear to have been successful and Nathan is now recovering at his home.
"However it will be a minimum of four weeks before Nathan is any condition to start a rehabilitation programme.
"It is our goal is to have Nathan ready for the Indian tour in October and we will be working with him over the next four months to achieve this."
