Profile
A left-arm spinner, Jayantha Silva's seven-Test career split into two distinct segments. Serve up Zimbabwean prey and he was lethal: in three Tests against them he took 16 wickets at an average of 10.12, including a couple of match-winning performances in Colombo in 1996-97. But in four Tests against India, Australia and Pakistan, Silva was managed only four wickets at an average of 121.25. With a plethora of left-armers in domestic circles, Silva's time had passed and he disappeared from the first-class game before he was 28.
