The only problem for Mongia in the recent past has been a series of injuries. Beginning with the South Africa tour of India in 1999 when Mongia took a painful blow on the hand from Nantie Hayward while batting, the stumper has been in and out of the team. Picked to play for India half way through the catastrophic tour of Australia in 1999, Mongia was flown Down Under and not played in a single game. Recently in the Kolkata Test match against Australia, Mongia was hit in the face by an offspinner from Harbhajan Singh when keeping. The ball bounced unexpectedly and Mongia sustained a broken nose and was out of action once more. Fit once again, Mongia is conspicuous by his absence from the probables list for the forthcoming tour of Zimbabwe.
