VVS Laxman will be remembered for his herculean innings against Australia in the famous Kolkata Test. Laxman became a folk hero in the space of two days and has ever since struggled to keep up with the feat at Kolkata. A ligament tear in the knee forced him to miss the Test series in Sri Lanka and had to undergo surgery in Australia. Though he had hoped to be fit for the South African tour, Laxman has pulled out of the ODI triangular series.
