The size and width of India, and thereby the variety and mix of players from different backgrounds makes coaching the Indian team a difficult task. That for an Indian. When John Wright was first appointed coach there was apprehension in many quarters. How well would a New Zealander understand the diversity in the Indian team? What about the different languages? Many Indian cricketers don't speak very good English, and Wright certainly doesn't speak much Hindi! How would he communicate with the players?
