Sadagoppan Ramesh is the kind of cricketer who will give fans nervous moments every time he goes out to bat. A cavalier left hand bat, Ramesh strokes the ball as freely and times the ball as sweetly as anyone in world cricket when on song. What makes him an easy target for critics is the manner in which he is dismissed, often when he is right on top of the bowling. As an opening batsman in Test cricket, Ramesh's place in the Indian side is all but guaranteed. After starting off with a bang against Pakistan at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai in 1998-99, Ramesh has not looked back. At the end of 15 Tests, the southpaw averages a healthy 40.17, with two hundreds and a highest of 143.
