Zimbabwe worries continue

It may be just as well that Zimbabwe begin their Group A campaign on Saturday against the likely easy beats of the group, Kenya. But then again, on the form they have displayed in their two completed county games, even a win against Kenya is not a sure thing.

Zimbabwe were humbled at Edgbaston yesterday. Chasing 172 for victory against Warwickshire they were all out for 106.

Eddo Brandes and Neil Johnson gave the visitors a good start, removing the top half of the Warwickshire batting with 41 runs on the board. But it was cricket's Anglo-Scottish nowhere man, Dougie Brown, who led a recovery, scoring 49, well supported by stand-in wicketkeeper Tony Frost (33*).

Warwickshire were dismissed for 171 in 48.4 overs. Brandes finished his ten overs with 3/25, Johnson 2/24 from his seven. Leg-spinner Adam Huckle took three wickets late in the innings, but Henry Olonga (3/31 from three overs) failed to impress.

Zimbabwe's batting response can be summed up in the scores of the four top batsmen, all accomplished internationals - Grant Flower (0), Neil Johnson (6), Murray Goodwin (2) and Andy Flower (8). Guy Whittall top scored with 25, the innings and the match all over after 35.2 overs. Graeme Welch (4/26) was the best of the Warwickshire bowlers.
