The Electronic Telegraph Warm-up match: Gloucestershire v West Indies
The Electronic Telegraph - 8 May 1999

Rain arrived at noon in Bristol to spoil the game between Gloucestershire and the West Indies and frustrate West Indian hopes of further acquainting themselves with the conditions.

In the 16 overs possible, the visitors encountered some tight bowling from the home seamers and lost Ridley Jacobs, Stuart Williams and Sherwin Campbell, all to ambitious strokes. Between times some powerful back-foot shots were played, especially by Campbell, whose innings was ended by a diving catch at midwicket.

Sadly the cricket was not quite as stirring as it might sound. More interest was taken in the absentees than in the deeds of those present. Brian Lara was still nursing his sore wrist and Courtney Walsh was either injured or ignored, depending upon the spokesman contacted.
