Scots fall to Blewett

Yorkshire (131-5) bt Scotland (126-9) by 5 wkts (D/L method)

Australian reject Greg Blewett hit an unbeaten 57 to steer Yorkshire to a five-wicket, final over victory against a battling Scotland side yesterday.

Overnight rain had delayed the start and further interruptions had reduced the game to 41 overs apiece, Scotland finding themselves put in to bat on a wicket of variable bounce and with enough moisture in it to encourage the seamers.

They lost Bruce Patterson for a duck, caught behind from the first ball of Chris Silverwood's second over. Mike Allingham and George Salmond were caught behind soon after.

Only when Gavin Hamilton joined Iain Philip did the Scots drag themselves back into the game. Craig White's fourth ball to him, a beamer, struck the all-rounder on the helmet and he trod on his wicket only for Steve Bucknor to call a no ball.

Hamilton, recovering quickly from the indignity, struck one mighty six and was Scotland's top scorer with 44 in a 41-over total of 126 for nine.

Yorkshire also found the going tough against a tight Scottish attack. With the rain clouds rolling away the wicket eased and Blewett gradually gained in confidence, to steer Yorkshire to a five-wicket win, achieved with five balls to spare.
