Scotland's batting impresses in washout

Scotland could only face 38 overs at Old Trafford yesterday before their match was abandoned, but the batting of Iain Phillip and Mike de Allingham showed that they will not necessarily be easybeats when the serious play comes around.

The forty year-old Phillip scored 55 from 79 deliveries and Allingham made 57 (85 balls, 3 fours, 2 sixes) as Scotland put on 161 for the loss of three wickets before rain ended proceedings. Captain George Salmond also showed good form, unbeaten on 29.

Gavin Hamilton was rested from yesterday's game. Former Australian allrounder Peter Sleep was named in the Lancashire eleven at the age of fortytwo. Scotland will play Yorkshire at Scarborough on Wednesday to conclude their warmup program.
