Afridi Hurt

Only ten overs were possible in Pakistan's match against Durham at Riverside Stadium, Chester-le-Street yesterday. It was ten overs they could possibly have done without, as Shahid Afridi was taken to hospital after being struck on the elbow while batting.

Afridi was hit by a delivery from England A fast bowler Steve Harmison after he had scored 10. X-rays showed no break and it is expected that he will be fit for Pakistan's opening Group B game against the West Indies on Sunday.

Saeed Anwar was unbeaten on 16, and Abdur Razzaq 14, when players were forced from the field with the score on 50 without loss.

Pakistan play Lancashire on Wednesday, Wasim Akram returning to the ground where he has enjoyed much success in county cricket. Waqar Younis is expected to play for the first time on tour in that game. Meanwhile, Pakistan coach Mushtaq Mohammad has refuted a report in a Sri Lankan Sunday paper, saying that Shoaib Akhtar had been reported to the ICC for a suspect bowling action.
