Bangladesh's unbeaten run ends

Bangladesh end their official warmup program with two wins and a loss, their perfect record being dented with a 44-run loss to Northamptonshire yesterday.

Northants, batting first after captain Matthew Hayden won the toss, scored 279 for 5 from their fifty overs. Mal Loye (62) and David Sales (50) contributed the majority of the runs in the top half of the innings before Kevin Curran, who played for Zimbabwe in the 1983 World Cup, hit an unbeaten 57 from 39 deliveries, together with Kevin Innes (42* from 31) adding 98 runs for the sixth wicket in the slog overs. Enamul Hoque (2/40) was the most successful bowler, but paceman Manjural Islam (0/34 from nine overs) was the only Bangladeshi bowler to go for less than four an over.

Bangladesh were already out of the hunt when Khaled Mahmud smashed 40 from 21 balls, including four fours and three sixes against part-time bowlers. Wicketkeeper Khaled Mashud Pilot was unbeaten at the end of the innings, also on 40 but from a more leisurely 43 deliveries. Bangladesh were all out for 235 in 48.4 overs.
