Nothing Moody About Australia at Worcestershire

A Duckworth-Lewis-increased target was no problem at all for Australia as they cruised past Worcestershire with almost ten overs to spare yesterday.

The home side was contained to 162 for 7 in 44 overs after rain interrupted their innings. Philip Weston top scored with 44, while Fleming, Warne and Lee all took two wickets each for the Australians. Glenn McGrath conceded 19 runs from his eight overs before claiming the wicket of Richard Illingworth.

The first innings interruptions meant that Australia's 44-over target was raised to 178. This was no handicap as Adam Gilchrist (86 from 94 balls) and Mark Waugh (64 from 67 balls) breezed to an opening stand of 127. Victory came with six wickets in hand and 9.5 overs to spare.

A disappointment for the fans was that local hero Tom Moody was not on display. He was rested by the Australians and, unlike the situation with Mark Ealham and Nasser Hussain for England, not released to play for his county.

Australia finish their warmup program on Wednesday against Taunton.
