Bevan, Warne slipping into form

An unbeaten 68 by Michael Bevan and three wickets for Shane Warne were the highlights of Australia's 32-run win over Somerset at Taunton yesterday.

Bevan faced 85 balls after coming to bat with Australia 103 for 4. At the end of their fifty overs Australia were 243 for 5, Shane Lee unbeaten on 30. The Waugh twins (Mark 46, Steve 44) both had a good workout with the bat, but Ricky Ponting made a duck. Andy Caddick was best of the Somerset bowlers with 2/36.

Somerset's reply started badly captain Jamie Cox was out second ball, the second Tasmanian duck of the day. After a 76 partnership between Michael Burns (38) and Piran Holloway (40), the Sabres lost their next three wickets to Shane Warne (3/35 from his ten overs). Because of a rain interruption, Somerset's target was adjusted to 241 from 47 overs, but they were dismissed for 208 from 45.2 overs. Damien Fleming took three wickets and Adam Dale two, but Glenn McGrath (0/44 from nine overs) had an unsuccessful afternoon.
