Final: Australia v Pakistan at Lord's, 20 Jun 1999

Ball-by-Ball Commentary

Welcome to Lord's. The teams in today's little ODI shin-dig are
Astralia and Pakistan. The threatened rain is pretty much absent
and the match should start at the scheduled time
and it looks like I spoke too soon, the rain is coming down in
bucket's full. Covers are on, and it's windy and it looks very
dark. The rumour is that the rain should pass pretty quickly.
rain has all passed at 0930 GMT. Covers are still on, and we still
havn't had a toss, so it's likely the start will be delayed a
        little
teams and officials are lined up on the ground, meeting some
        anachronisms
toss about to made, covers are slowly being taken off, it looks as
though there will be about 30 minutes delay to the start of play
Madugalle flicks the coin, Wasim calls "tails" and it is tails,
        Pakistan to bat first
Pakistan are unchanged. Waugh says he's quite happy to lose the
toss, doesn't think it will have too much effect on the match

Match State: Match start rescheduled to 1015 GMT due to rain

and we finally get the news that Australia are unchanged
umpires and teams are out on the ground. we'll all set, sit back
and relax, unless you have to mow the lawn or something

clowns run onto the pitch for some clownish reason
20.1 Saqlain Mushtaq to Lehmann, FOUR, easy cut shot thru point, and
Australia wins the 12-nation ODI tournament
much celebrations in the dressing room, Waugh grabbing the stumps,
security not grabbing him like they did the plebs, an absolutely
comprehensive defeat for Pakistan in the most one sided World Cup
        final ever
brilliant comeback for Australia, virtually everyone wrote them off
after the defeat against Pakistan in the preliminary games, but
then when Waugh said "we'll win 7 in a row now", there was much
        scoffing to be had
crowd have filled the ground, many Australia flags are being waved,
some inflatable kangaroos are seeing the light of day for the
first time. Stay tuned for the presentations.....
Presentations: umpires giving medals, Wasim collects a cheque: "we
got beaten by a better side... i'd like to thank the support.. all
credit to Steve Waugh and his side... the satisfaction to me was
        the youngsters did very well..."
now each of the Pakistani players get a medal, to the tune of loud
whistling and booing, I dare say it's coming from the "support"
        Wasim spoke so highly about
Man of the match: Shane Warne, the man we were led to believe is
played so way by Pakistan: "...wanted to make amends for the last
WC final... last couple of matches, the ball did something...
"there were a couple of times I tried things and it worked"
Man of the tournament, who gets a shiny brom brom to drive is Lance
Klusener, he still looks pretty shell shocked. And now the
Australians get their little medals, even Shane Lee gets one.
some of the more sponsor conscious Australians have the "Fly
Emirates" hat on. Other renegades with the green and gold hat on
will no doubt be going home by boat.
Waugh: "great performance by the boys.... really was a great team
        effort (repeat until fade)"
Waugh lofts the trophy and gets a huge cheer, all the Australians
have their arms raised and fists clenched. Now Dalmiya gets in a
        few of his characteristic words.
Each of the Australians take turns in raising the trophy and
getting a cheer, meanwhile Dalmiya continues in the background.
Now the Australia pose on the balcony for a few happy snaps.
and so that concludes the CricInfo coverage of the World Cup. You
