Shane Warne tried everything in the 29.3 overs he bowled - bouncers, "more wrong'uns than in a season", and high-bouncing top-spinners down the leg side - and eventually finished with 4 for 97. He also had some advice for the umpire Aleem Dar that was caught on local radio after he was called for a leg-side wide. Here is what he had to say in the press conference at the end of the day:

On the leg-side wides
I was trying to bowl a slow top-spinner down the leg side so [Jacob Oram] could top-edge a sweep. The umpire [Aleem Dar] said it was negative bowling so he wided me. I thought the first one was a bit wide, but the second I didn't think was a wide. I just asked him if it was negative, and he said you worry about your job and I'll worry about mine. I said fine, no problem.

On the two bouncers to Oram
There were three blokes back on the fence and I was trying to keep him off strike for the next over. It was [meant to be] a surprise more than anything else so the quickie could have a go at No. 10.

On the pitch and the plans for the third day
The cracks are a lot wider and I'm sure they are going to come into play. I think it's going to be a good Test match. If we can get a lead by stumps tomorrow that would be nice, if not we could be chasing our tail.

On the day's play and the frustration of bowling to the lower order
They did extremely well to get 350. New Zealand played well, [Kyle] Mills batting at No. 10 looked as good as any of them. Chris Martin played his role in the partnership, and Jacob Oram showed how dangerous he can be with some big hits off the quicks. We always rate the Kiwis highly. No matter how many guys are out they always lift against Australia. I think one of the reasons is because of how well they are led by Stephen Fleming ... he gets the best out of his team and every single player.
