Habibul Bashar, the Bangladesh captain, sustained an injury to his right thumb and was ruled out of action for at least ten days. Bashar was struck on the thumb during training and suffered an injury similar to the one he had sustained while playing against England at Chittagong last year.
According to The Daily Star, Bashar consulted Justin Cordy, the trainer, with his medical report and confirmed that there was evidence of a fracture. "I will continue to train with the team," he added, "but I will not attend the batting or fielding sessions." Bashar also said that a swelling had developed in the region.
However, Cordy termed the fracture as one of "minor" proportions and was confident of Bashar being fit in time for the Champions Trophy in England next month. "He will take ten days to recover and we might not risk playing him in Bangladesh's practice match in Scotland prior to the Champions Trophy. But he is not a worry for the tournament."
Another injury worry for Bangladesh was Manjural Islam Rana, the left-arm spinner, who complained of back pains after a weight-training session. However, Cordy was optimistic of Manjural also recovering in time.
