Top 19 ODI players to attend Lincoln camp

New Zealand's top 19 one-day players have been named for a three-day camp to be held at the High Performance Centre at Lincoln University from tomorrow until Friday.

The camp is an opportunity for New Zealand Cricket's coaching personnel to assess the fitness of players and to tailor individual programmes for them.

Coach Denis Aberhart said: "We have seven One-Day Internationals to play against India starting in just over a month and just over two months until we make our World Cup bid.

"This opportunity has been created to allow us a chance to assess the fitness of individuals and arrange programs specifically tailored to one-day cricket."

It is the first time the players have been together since their early return from the ICC Champions' Trophy in September and since the players' strike which kept them out of the scene for six weeks from October 1.

The one-day squad is: Stephen Fleming, Andre Adams, Nathan Astle, Shane Bond, Ian Butler, Chris Cairns, Chris Harris, Paul Hitchcock, Brendon McCullum, Craig McMillan, Kyle Mills, Chris Nevin, Jacob Oram, Mathew Sinclair, Scott Styris, Glen Sulzberger, Daryl Tuffey, Daniel Vettori, Lou Vincent.

Missing from the list of players who turned out in ODIs last summer are: Matt Horne, Robbie and Matthew Hart, Brooke Walker, Mark Richardson and James Franklin.

Three possible wicket-keepers are included in the squad, Nevin, McCullum and Vincent, if he is still to be considered as the wicket-keeper.

McCullum is an interesting inclusion after he struggled to adapt in the white-hot atmosphere in Australia last summer.

However, he has been getting coaching over the winter and will don the gloves for Otago for the first time in two seasons in their opening State Championship match against Central Districts at the weekend.

Adams is clearly seen as a key element in the World Cup hopes although he was only able to bowl a light spell on the first day of Auckland's warm-up match with Northern Districts yesterday.

Central Districts all-rounder Sulzberger has won a recall after not being required by the side last year.

Butler is also clearly seen as a prospect for the future after his early call-up last summer. While he finished with a high economy rate of 5.8 there were clear signs of potential after he was called in at such short notice to replace Bond when he was unavailable for last season's series against England.
