Canadian team nominated for national award

The Canadian cricket team recieved national recognition last night when they were nominated for "Canadian male team of the year" at the Canadian Sports Awards in Toronto. The nomination followed the team's qualification for the World Cup, to be held in 2003 in South Africa (through a 3rd place finish at the ICC Trophy in Toronto in July 2001). The award was won by the Canadian short-track skating relay team, but it was an honour to be nominated, and a rare opportunity for cricket to shine on the national stage. The Canadian team is about to embark for southern Africa, where they will take part in the 6 Nations Challenge tournament in Namibia, playing against squads from Namibia, Netherlands, Kenya, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe.
