Thailand won the toss in their opening game at the Asian Cricket Council Under 15 Tournament at Malaysia against India. Unfortunately that was the most positive thing they managed to achieve all day. Losing the 40 over encounter by 246 runs, the Thailand team were decimated by a team that was in a different class altogether.
Putting India in to bat, there was no respite for the Thai bowlers as Hyderabad opener Ambati Tirupati Rayadu slammed 64 at the top of the innings. Palash Das was not far behind in his quickfire innings of 63 in the middle order. Taking just 50 balls and peppering the boundary four times in his stay at the wicket, Das propped the Indian middle order up.
Although four batsmen failed to reach double figure, the Indians managed a more than healthy 272 in their allotted 40 overs.
This proved to be far out of reach of the Thai batsmen. The scorecard for their innings reads an embarrassing 26 all out. Arjun Kumar made 11 before he was bowled by left arm seamer Irfan Pathan. That proved to be the only resistance the Thais could offer. Six batsmen failed to get off the mark and the wickets were shared all around. Irfan Pathan's brief spell of 4 balls resulted in 3 wickets, something you will not see every day in cricket.
The whole affair was too one sided to have given India a serious work out. When they take on Pakistan and Sri Lanka later in the tournament however, things will be anything but one sided.
