Sir Viv Richards was named yesterday as West Indies coach for the tour
to New Zealand starting next month.
The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) said the appointment of Sir Viv
and Clive Lloyd as manager was for one tour only.
Sir Viv, who led West Indies in 50 Tests between 1985 and 1991, took
over as West Indies coach during the World Cup in June when Malcolm
Marshall was taken ill. Marshall died of colon cancer earlier this
month.
The WICB said in a statement that following the New Zealand tour, it
intended to appoint both manager and coach by a process of
advertisement and interviews of appropriate candidates.
This exercise will be completed prior to the home series against
Zimbabwe and Pakistan next year, the statement added.
West Indies six-week New Zealand tour will include two Tests and five
One-Day matches.
