04-Dec-1999
The four day second `Test' between India A and West Indies A ended in a tame draw at Georgetown on Friday. The first `Test' last month at Port of Spain too had ended in a draw.
Replying to the West Indies score of 238, India did well in taking a first innings lead of 13 runs. At close of play on the second day they were 211 for seven. Opener J Arun Kumar top scored with 74 and Md Kaif came up with a valuable 69 not out in the middle order. Arun Kumar and skipper Gagan Khoda (27) put on 63 runs for the first wicket. A ninth wicket partnership of 31 runs between Md Kaif and D Ganesh (14) helped the Indian team to take the lead. Pace bowler Nixon McLean was the most successful bowler with four for 45 while D Mais took three for 63. There were three run outs in the Indian innings.
In their second innings, West Indies A, after being 136 for five at stumps on the penultimate day, were all out for 206 on the final morning leaving the visitors a victory target of 194. The Indians, when stumps were finally drawn, were 147 for six. The two match series thus ended in a stalemate.
