Good Afternoon all! This afternoon at Old Trafford its England v
South Africa, their second match and its going to be a day/night
game in the NatWest Series.
After the disappointment due to rain at Headingley, and we all know
Manchester is not the greatest of places in England for lack of
rain either! Well lets hope there is none today.
Zimbabwe were doing well at Headingley in the 25 over game that was
abandoned as a no result and both teams picked up 3 points on
Tuesday.
Now England must aim for back-to-back wins against South Africa,
who will be trying to fight back after their defeat at The Oval.
To most fans and writers, it seems the teams are not that far apart
on form and today the toss may play a key role.
England's middle order has shown fragility, while South Africa are
rather thin in bowling. Their medium pace attack lacks penetration
after the heydays of Donald and Pollock.
Thus bowling is something the South African selectors need to look
at soon.
For South Africa, Jacques Kallis is in fine form with the bat and
Andrew Hall has come out well as an allrounder.
England's Marcus Trescothick's batting form, in partnership with
Vikram Solanki will need to continue and also Jimmy Anderson will
be their main striker with the ball.
Michael Vaughan showed signs of coming back into form at Headingley
and for South Africa one hopes Shaun Pollock gets back into top
gear.
For today's game South Africa have brought in Langeveldt for Dawson
who faied to impress and England Giles for Kabir.
Possibly the best news is that its NOT raining but it is cloudy at
Manchester and who can do more than simply talk of English
weather.
More good news for England fans is that the toss has been won and
they are batting in afternoon light. So c'mon Pollock, Ntini and

The pitch is very dry (was hiding over the rainy past days under
covers) and possibly chance of spin as England have included
Giles.
