Which West Indies batsman scored four consecutive Test hundreds against India?

Everton Weekes' did not, in his own words, "set the world on fire" in his first three Tests. Probably, it was the desire to make up for this which sparked off a run that was to see him score hundreds in each of his forays to the batting crease in his next four Tests.

Between 27 March 1948, when he played the last Test of his team's 1947-48 series against England, to February 9, 1949, when he played the fourth of five Tests against India in India, Weekes was relentless in his run-getting. His scores during the five innings in that period make fabulous reading even now - 141 (against England at Kingston), and 128, 194, 162 and 101 - all against India.

"Obviously that was the highlight of my career," Weekes admitted in a recent interview. "It was five centuries in five innings and the world record and I'm proud that it still stands nearly 50 years later." Incidentally, it would have been six hundreds in a row if he had not been declared run out for 90 in the fourth Test played at Chennai. He went on to make 56 and 48 in the two West Indian innings in the final Test to end up with 779 runs in the series at Bradmanesque average of 111.28.
