Sri Lanka and New Zealand met at the Premadasa Stadium, Colombo for the second time in the triangular ODI series on Wednesday, 25th July 2000. The Kiwi's won the toss and elected to bat first. Matthew Sinclair (21) and Nathan Astle added 70 runs for the first wicket in 13.1 overs. Jacob Oram came up in the order and scored just eleven runs. Nathan Astle (54) played a good hand, striking half a dozen boundaries and a six. He was bowled by Russel Arnold with the first ball of his spell.
