Date-stamped : 05 Aug96 - 18:27 Tour Match Scotland v Pakistan Edinburgh 1 August 1996 ====> REPORT Tour Match: Shadab in fluent form for tourists By Keith Graham in Edinburgh Pakistanis (286-5) bt Scotland (178) by 108 runs PAKISTAN strolled to a comfortable victory over Scotland in a one-day match yesterday on a wicket lacking any pace or bounce. It was the left-handed 18-year-old, Shadab Kadir, who was Pakistan`s best player, collecting a century in 119 balls, with 15 boundaries, mostly from fluent, well-placed drives through the off-side. The tourists had a steady start, Shahid Anwar and Shadab adding 57 for the first wicket against some accurate Scottish bowling. Greig Williamson made the breakthrough, bowling Shahid and Saeed Anwar and later picking up a third wicket when he had Moin Khan caught at mid-on. With Asif Mujtaba clearly enjoying his return to Scotland - where he has been a professional - with a rapid, unbeaten 63, the tour- ists reached 286 for five in their 50 overs. The Scottish reply started disastrously when Bryn Lockie went first ball to Ata-ur-Rehman but Iain Philip, who recently reached 100 caps for Scotland, once again showed his class. Piercing the off-side with well-timed shots off both front and back foot, he gave the Scots some impetus. While he was there, Scotland`s response was on target but when he was trapped lbw by Shahid Nazir for 50, the scoring rate plummet- ed. But it was off-spinner Saqlain Mushtaq, with four for 35, who broke the Scottish innings when he took four wickets in as many overs to reduce them from 144 for four to 170 for eight.
