Date-stamped : 25 Feb95 - 14:32 Pakistan v Zimbabwe, ODI 2 played at Harare, 25 February 1995 ====> Zim innings Dave Houghton scored a breezy undefeated 73 off only 77 balls to help Zimbabwe reach 209-5 off their allotted 50 overs in the second one-day cricket international at Harare on Saturday. The Zimbabwe vice-captain, who reached his 10th half century in limited overs on the way, hit seven fours and one six off Salim Malik. He was given fine support from Alistair Campbell with whom he put on 56 for the fourth wicket in 53 minutes. Campbell made 27. Houghton and Guy Whittall, who made only 13, also put on a half century stand in 30 minutes. Zimbabwe were pegged back in the early stages by tight bowling but managed to extricate themselves from the stranglehold in the last 10 overs from which 75 runs were scored. Medium pace bowler Manzoor Elahi and Wasim Akram took 2-36 and 2-40 respectively but the most economical figures were those of off spinner Akram Raza who finished with 0-27 off his 10 overs. Chasing 210 to win, Pakistan slumped dramatically to 23 for four in the ninth over with Saeed Anwar, Asif Mujtaba and Salim Malik each falling for ducks before Inzamam found the perfect ally in Ijaz Ahmed. They added 152 for the fifth wicket, completely changing the complexion of the game before Ijaz -- who was dropped at long leg by Dave Houghton when he had made 39 -- was yorked by the Brian Strang for 54. B.Strang, who was later cautioned by match referee Jackie Hendricks for pointing Ijaz in the direction of the pavilion when he bowled him, finished with three for 22 for his 10 overs but he could do nothing to stop Inzamam who moved easily to his fourth one-day internaitonal hundred. His 116 came in 170 minutes from 139 balls and included nine fours and a six. His nomination for the man-of-the-match followed the same award he received in the third test, when he also made a century, as well as the man-of-the-test-series award. Earlier, the veteran Houghton kept Zimbabwe on contention after a sluggish start with an uncompromising 73 not out as his side reached 209 for five in their 50 overs. The 37-year-old came to the crease with Zimbabwe bogged down on 74 for three off 23 overs and proceded to share in important partnerships of 56 with Alistair Campbell (27) and 55 with Guy Wittall (13). With Zimbabwe on 134 for four with just 10 overs remaining, Houghton took charge to reach 73 from 77 balls in 99 minutes, hitting seven fours and one towering six off the left-arm spin of Sohail.
