Contributed by goo-chie (jdw5@*ac.uk) ====> MORE Jo Angel lead WA on a bad day for New Zealand with 5 for 32, backed up by Mark Atkinson (3-86) as New Zealand were bundled out for 149 on the first day of their four day match with WA. Western Australia scored freely in reply at 4 runs an over and were 2 for 64 at stumps. In Perth new New Zealand opener Clair Pocock was less impressive than two days before taking half an hour to score one before he edged an Angel ball through to the keeper. Greatbatch survived a caught behind dismissal off a no ball from Angel but was out next ball caught backward of square. Crowe and Jones steadied the innings slightly before Crowe was picked up by Mark At- kinson Rutherford was next dismissed playing one of those backfoot drives, this one didn't go for six, it went in the direction of Damien Martyn who took a good catch. Julian got Pa- tel with one which went across him and it was 5-99. Jones and Cairns moved the score along until Moody has Jones caught in the outfield. Cairns was caught in the outfield as well, and then Doull, Su'a and Morrison offered little resistance being caught behind the stumps. WA only faced 15 overs but had moved the score along to 64 for the loss of just Geoff Marsh who was bowled not offering a shot by Cairns and McPhee who was caught in close off the bowling of Doull. Langer and nightwatchman Julian saw it out. Thanks to Phil Shead on r.s.c. They extended their first innings lead to 227 by the time bad light stopped play. Queensland suffered the embarrasement of after Darren Webber and Scuderi had taken the score to 455 watch Shane George who's batting average is marginally WORSE than Terry Alderman smash a run a ball fifty. In reply they were 1 for 93. And a short time ago on the third day they were 4 for 167. In perth Justin Langer and night watchman Brendan Julian blasted the at- tack in the morning session. Julian playing some of the mag- nificient drives he used to good effect in the third ashes test, and Langer playing a free scoring style took the score to 135 before Langer was given out caught behind off Dipak Patel. Langer was obviously unhappy and stayed for a good time before leaving. For this he was reported by both umpires for dissent. Julian was looking good before he was out to delivery that went across him from Su'a and the New Zealand bowling tightened up a little as Martyn and Moody put on 185 runs for the fifth wicket. Martyn was displaying good concentration as he scored 80 runs from 189 balls, whilst Moody was more aggresive taking 161 balls for his 100. The pair were dismised in quick fashion with Martyn playing on and Moody being bowled playing an aggressive shot. Keepers Veletta and Zoehrer took the score to 376 at stumps. Other bad news for New Zealand is that openers Mark Greatbatch and Blair Pocock have hand injuries. Pocock's was incured whilst practicing fielding before yesterday's play but he will be able to bat in this game. Greatbatch was struck on the hand whilst batting and is unlikely to play in the New South Wales match. Langer was actually fined A$300 for dissent Thanks to Phil Shead on r.s.c.
