Date-stamped : 22 Nov93 - 12:51 NZ v SoA, Tour Match, 19-22 Nov 93 ====> Day 3 New Zealand's renewed confidence was given another big boost Sunday as they headed towards victory over Sheffield Shield leader South Australia. The Kiwis performed bravely to save the first Test last week and carried on that form to be within sight of a second win over a state side by the close of the third day at the Adelaide Oval. South Australia were 247 for seven in its second innings and leading by 129 runs with a day to play. Top- order batsman James Brayshaw provided the only major obstacle, spending four hours over a workmanlike 94 until he misjudged a Simon Doull offcutter and was bowled. Tailender Damion Reeves was still there at the close on 35 while Test off-spinner Tim May was on 13. New Zealand captain Martin Crowe had to return home last Wednesday due to knee problems but the tourists have been strong enough in this game to absorb his loss. Replacement paceman Richard De Groen bowled tightly for 2-45 from 21 overs while Doull and Murphy Su'a shared four wickets between them. Newly-promoted captain Ken Rutherford declared at the overnight total of 276 for six and left the South Australians with a deficit of 118 runs. Replacement fast bowler Richard De Groen tore out the heart of the South Australian middle order with the wickets of Tim Nielsen and Joe Scuderi in three balls, trapping both lbw for eight and a duck. De Groen seems likely to slot straight into the Test team next week to fill the role usually held by the injured Willie Watson. The only highlight of a predictable final day was SA wicketkeeper Tim Nielsen's maiden first class wicket as Tim May took the catch off Pocock. Contributed by The Management (help@cricinfo.com)
