Date-stamped : 21 May94 - 02:24 Pakistan v West Indies, 1st ODI, Kingston, 23 March 1993 WI won by four wickets. An enthralling innings of 114, at a run a ball, from Lara crushed Pakistan. Haynes, Simmons and Richardson had contributed only 51 runs to the total of 180 when the little left-hander was out. If West Indies lost three more wickets getting the remaining 44 runs, it was because Lara`s successors batted as if they did not want to suffer in comparison. Pakistan were asked to bat in testing conditions, a cloudy sky preserving dampness in the pitch. Their strategy was to conserve wickets against keen bowl- ing by Ambrose and Walsh and mount a late offensive. The openers consumed 23 overs gathering 67 runs. Some loose bowling by Bishop and Inzimam-ul-Haq`s assault on Adams gave Pakistan some momen- tum: Inzimam smashed 50 off 48 balls and added 118 in 21 overs with Aamir Sohail Thanks: 1994 Wisden Contributed by cp (help@cricinfo.com)
