Drawn After a brisk innings by Rose and Marks, Somerset faltered to 139 for 5 against steady seam bowling and safe slip catching. Popplewell, on his Somerset debut, bat- ted well, and Gurr helped in the highest stand of the innings as Chandrasekhar took the last 4 wickets. Gurr broke down in his second over, but against a limited attack the Indians collapsed to 106 for 5 on the second day. The substitue, Lloyds, brough off a brilliant catch and run out. Rain reduced play on the second day to two and a half hours, but against a depleted attack, gen- erously handled, Yashpal dominated the rest of the innings. With fewer than 5 hours left, Somer- set collapsed after a third wicket stand of 56 in an hour between Slocombe and Roebuck in a much-changed order.
