Surendra started playing cricket at a very early age with the Victoria Park CC under their Junior programme. His talent was soon noticed by club seniors and was was promoted into their Premier Divison and has kept wicket since. His appearance in 1991 as vice-Captain of the National under-19's resulted in a successful run against the Irish, engineering 7 dismissals and 6 in 1996 against the Bangladeshis.

He was a consistent feature on the National Senior team, making his appearances from 1994 to 1996, against the USA and Bangladesh. His career climaxed with a final appearance in 2000 as a member of the victorious America's Cup team. It is somewhat a surprise that he has not been on a regular rotation on the team roster since then. (Colin Mohammed)
