 Profile

Ron Oxenham made a name in first-class cricket comparatively late, but became the best allrounder produced by Queensland. A right-arm medium-pace bowler, noted for accuracy of length and skill in flight, with a lethal slower ball that dipped late. If he had a weakness it was that he became negative when attacked. He was a good hard-hitting batsman and smart slip field.

He made his Queensland debut in 1911-12 but was not chosen for Australia until 1928-29, by which time he was 37, when he made three appearances against England. He was considered a certainty for the 1930 England tour but was overlooked in favour of Ted a'Beckett. He was not helped by the fact that Queensland did not enter the Sheffield Shield until 1926-27.

He appeared against South Africa and West Indies, and in 1932-33 was named in the Australian squad twice but did not make the final XI.

He suffered serious injury in a car accident in 1937 and, never fully recovering, took no further part in first-class cricket.
